GREGORIAN
Factus est repente - Catholic Songs, Gregorian Chant
#tag: Factus est repente de caelo sonus, tamquam advenientis spiritus vehementis ubi erant sedentes, alleluia;
This Pentecostal hymn is very short, but very rich, it is Communion hymn from the mass at Pentecost, recalling 'Acts 2:2,4'. I have not included the lyrics in the video, because of its shortness, but I have included various representations of the descent of the Holy Spirit. These pictures are all from different periods in art history. The chant is sung by the Cistercian monks of Stift Heiligenkruez. The Latin text and English translation follow:

Factus est repente de caelo sonus,
tamquam advenientis spiritus vehementis ubi erant sedentes, alleluia;
et repleti sunt omnes Spiritu Sancto, loquentes magnalia Dei,
alleluia, alleluia.

Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming where they were sitting, alleluia;
and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, speaking the wonderful works of God,
alleluia, alleluia.
